Event Recap: Walking Together in a Good Way. Vernon, BC. April 2024

This was a powerful weekend of hearing stories and connecting with local Indigenous neighbours and leaders. This was also an encouraging reminder of the progress that can be made when we commit to the long journey. This church in Vernon had its first learning event in 2019, and though COVID slowed their pace and altered the original itinerary, the community kept their commitment to continue forward — connecting with neighbours, digging into educational resources (see Red Clover’s reading lists here), and praying with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (learn about that here). 

It was rewarding to see some of the fruit of the labour of relationship building as we heard from Indigenous neighbours, including Residential School survivors, who have in recent years become good friends of church members.
