For Canadian Baptist Executive Team and Pastors a one hour learning event on this new National Holiday. Held on Zoom. For more information contact us here.
This event will be co-facilitated by Michelle Casavant and Jodi Spargur. Michelle is new to some of you, so here is a bit of her bio.
Michelle is mixed heritage, Cree-Métis, French, and Irish from central Saskatchewan. She grew up in Saskatchewan with traditional Métis practices, community life, fishing for pike, berry picking, bologna sandwiches and going to the bingo hall with her gramma and aunties.
She has been a visitor on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations since 1997. Michelle has a background and formal training in fine arts, education and law.
She has worked for the federal government for 10 years in numerous roles involving Indigenous peoples and communities: she was part of the legal team that conducted the Independent Assessment Process hearings for residential school survivors.
Michelle is a very active volunteer providing Indigenous perspectives to policies and programming. She also hosts Indigenous authors book clubs, cultural competency training, community engagement, and cultural workshops.
